IGF 2009: Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt PDF Print E-mail

The fourth annual Internet Governance Forum (IGF) was held from 15-18 November 2009 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Excerpts of the reports of the EA-IGF 2009 were presented and discussed during this annual meeting.

2009 EA-IGF: 7-9 September 2009, Nairobi, Kenya

The 2009 East Africa Internet Governance Forum (EA-IGF) was held in Nairobi, Kenya starting from 7th to 9th September. The meeting held at Jacaranda hotel was sponsored by Kenya ICT  Action Network (KICTANet) and Kenya Network Information Centre (KENIC), attracting an estimate of 140 participants. The theme of the forum was "thinking globaly, acting localy"

EA-IGF for Parliamentarians(EA-IGF4P): 9th September 2009

The Kenya ICT community working with the Chair of Kenya's Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Communication and Information organized  the inaugural EA-IGF for Parliamentarians (EA-IGF4P) that took place on September 9, 2009 at Norfolk hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. The  session hosted by  the Kenya minister for Information and Communication Technology Hon. Samuel Porgishio was held immediately after the 2009 EA-IGF and attracted Members of Parliament from East Africa.

2009 National Face-to-Face Internet Governance Forums

The EA-IGF is preceded by national face-to-face Internet Governance Forums in each of the 5 East Africa countries. Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have already held their national face-to-face meetings with the meetings in Burundi and Rwanda scheduled to take place by the 2nd of September 2009.

 

National IG Face-to-Face meetings reports:

  3. Kenya National IG Meeting: 19th August 2009
 
Kenya to host the 37th ICANN Meeting (March 2010)

Kenya won the bid to host the next round of African ICANN meetings in Nairobi from the 7th to the 12th of March 2010. Kenya, through KENIC, had sent in a bid to host the meeting. Other countries who had submitted similar bids include Nigeria and Namibia. The formal announcement and handing over of the mantle will be done during the forthcoming   ICANN meetings in Seoul, Korea from the 25th to the 30th of October 2009.
